Melita Bisons(2W 14L / 7th place in 7 team division)

The Bisons did not have a scheduled league game last week. Their next game is at home tomorrow, Saturday, January 18, when they host the Souris Elks. Game time is 8pm. This is also Melita’s last home game of the season.

Souris Elks(6W 8L / 5th place in 7 team division)

With a 5-2 record at home, the Souris Elks certainly enjoy the friendly confines of Murray Arena. Too bad they also have to play on the road. Such was the situation on Sunday, January 12, when they laced up in MacGregor, giving up a touchdown and a two point conversion in a 8-3 drubbing. The Elks started well with Andrew Brigden scoring 20 seconds into the game. MacGregor fought back and added two goals in the period to lead 2-1 after the first. Again Souris started a period strongly, scoring 1:33 into the second with a goal by Garret Bridges to tie the game.  MacGregor responded midway through the period with two goals by Tyler Slobogian 11 seconds apart. Ashley Robertson responded 35 seconds later for Souris to cut the lead to 4-3. But that was as close as the Elks would get. MacGregor scored the next four goals to pull away with the 8-3 win. Next game for Souris is tonight (January 17) at home, 8pm, versus the Wawanesa Jets.

Deloraine Royals(4W 9L 1OTL / 6th place in 7 team division)

After a two week break, the Royals came out flying at home against the Gladstone Lakers scoring 20 seconds into the first period on a goal by McCullough Park. Six minutes later, the Lakers answered with two goals in less that one minute and went into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead. The second period was all Deloraine as they scored three times (Cole Olson, Brett Morrison, and Jay Sunaert) and headed into the final frame up 4-2. Gladstone cut Deloraine’s lead to one with a Jory Geddes marker at 5:20 but the Royals answered with two third period goals (Chris Manshrek and McCullough Park) to take the win, 6-3. McCullough Park led Deloraine with two goals and one assist. Next game for Deloraine is tonight (January 17) when they visit Killarney. Puck drop is 8pm.
