Cougar showcase weekend

The Cougars played a pair of games in Portage on the weekend. They earned a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Bruins on Friday night, and then fell 6-3 to the Eastman Selects on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars gave the Winnipeg Wild all they could handle on Sunday falling 5-4 to the undefeated Wild.

The Bruins jumped out to and early lead. Cody Gudnason evened the score and then scored a power play goal from Zach Turner and Braeden Lewis to take the lead into the second frame. The Bruins tied the game only to have Hunter Wallace score five seconds later for the eventual game winner.

Jordan Boyechko put the game on ice with and empty goal as the period ended. Nikulas Jerris turned aside 33 Cougar shots, while Eric Reid picked up the win with 25 saves.

The Selects handed the Cougars a 6-3 set back. Hunter Wallace opened the scoring from Dexter Whittle. Kyle Melo evened the score. Selects outscored the Cougars 2-1 in the second. Cody Gudnason hooked up with Colten Miller to come out of the second behind 3-2

The third saw the Selects pump in three goals while Jacob Dolomont scored and unassisted marker making the final 6-3.

Brady Edmunds turned aside 34 shots while the Cougars fired 28 shots at the Selects net.

The Wild and the Cougars met for the first time this season. Each team scored with the man advantage. Jordan Boyechko opened the scoring from Kain Shearer and Hunter Wallace. The teams were even at two with Jordan Boyechko scoring twice for the Cats from Hunter Wallace and Braeden Lewis chipping in'

Braeden Lewis hooked up with Nolan Wickham and Boyechko for the 3-2 lead. The Wild tied the score only to have Zach Turner score with Jordan Boyechko and Braeden Lewis in on the goal.

Hughie Hooker scored the game winner in the third. Eric Reid turned aside 37 shots, while Andrew Ness turned aside 26 saves.
