The Souris and Glenwood Foundation has been active for over twenty-five years and in that time they’ve given out tens of thousands of dollars to various charitable organizations. In fact in 2018 alone, the Foundation delivered $14,000.00 in grants. Some of these were the Library, Souris Glenwood Golf Course, the M3morial Complex, the Souris Day-care to name a few. You would be hard pressed to find an organization or project that hasn’t been on the receiving end of a Foundation grant.
The Foundation receives money in a number of ways; through donation or bequeath, from a fundraising activity or through Endow Manitoba. The funds are kept for perpetuity and only the interest is distributed. On-going donations enable the Foundation to return even more money to the community.
In the next week, November 14 – 16, Foundations in Manitoba will be taking part in Endow Manitoba, including the Souris Glenwood Foundation.
Endow Manitoba is the network of our province’s community foundations. Started as an initiative of The Winnipeg Foundation, Endow Manitoba works with the province’s 55 community foundations to increase their impact and advance the movement. Gifts to your community foundations’ will be stretched thanks to funding from The Winnipeg Foundation and the Manitoba government up to a maximum of $2000.00 each.
The Souris Glenwood Foundation has designated November 12-15 as the 24 Hour Giving Challenge. Donations will be accepted at the Souris Civic Centre from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day with an “In person” donation day, with Foundation members present from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Three will be coffee and cookies and an opportunity to chat with Foundation members. November 16 is the online giving day.
“This is a perfect time to make your donation to the Foundation,” explained Foundation board member Glenda McConnell. “With the stretch funds from the Winnipeg Foundation and the Manitoba Government, we have an opportunity to grow our donations.”
The Foundation has set their 24 Hour Giving Challenge at $10,000.00. In 2018 they received $9825 in donations and with the stretch funds, they received a total of $13755.
Here’s how your donation works. Cheques are made payable to the Winnipeg Foundation. They compile all the donations and return them, along with their stretch funds and the stretch funds from the Manitoba Government to the local Foundation.
This is what your donation can look like:
$5.00 becomes $7.00; %10.00 becomes $14.00; $20.00 becomes $$28.00; $50.00 becomes $70.00; %100.00 becomes $140.00; $500.00 becomes $700.00; $1000.00 becomes $1400.00
There is no amount of money that is too little to donate. That’s the message the Foundation wants to share with you. Give what you can; your gift goes a long way.
