The February 19 Executive meeting was held at Antlers & Oak Diner. We were pleased to hear that two Souris businesses attended and presented at the SW Business Expo, held in Melita and were recipients of a complimentary 1-year Chamber membership. We welcome Chris Chabluk from Chabluk Repair Service & Anastasia Muir from Anastasia's Serenity & Wellness to the Chamber!
On February 26, a special budget meeting was held at the new Chicken Chef. While the executive was in awe of the changes to the building and improvements to the food, we still managed to get some work done. Welcome Baird and Lisa Murray to the Chamber as well!
Wednesday March 4, at our latest Open Meeting, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary prepared a lovely lunch for the seventeen people in attendance. We welcomed CAO Charlotte Parham to speak about emergency preparedness and CODE RED. Charlotte is currently doing double duty for Souris Glenwood, also acting at the Emergency Measures Coordinator until that position can be filled. Charlotte highlighted what the Municipality's role and abilities are during an emergency, and strongly suggested individuals make sure they are prepared too, with their own 72-hour plans and supplies. We were surprised to find out that the CODE RED system implemented just over a year ago does not have many residents signed up. With the town alarm no longer in function, CODE RED will be a very important service to our community. The Municipality is going to work at getting the word out there in the next little while. Including a test that afternoon. Everyone there was encouraged to sign-up and talk to others about signing up. The suggestion was made that this year, at some of the larger events taking place around town, maybe volunteers could be set up a booth with a computer helping get everyone registered. Residents can find out more information at the website: sourismanitoba.com or by phoning the Municipal office.
