For the first time in nearly sixty years Souris will have a Santa Clause Parade! The parade, which is brought to us by the Souris Glenwood Chamber of Commerce, will hit the streets on Saturday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m.
“We weren’t sure if we would get any interest when we first brought it up,” explained Chamber secretary Loretta Turner. “We started asking around and the interest was there and we’re very happy about that.”
The interest is there indeed. In fact there are currently twenty-seven floats scheduled to appear in the parade!
The parade floats will muster near the Curling rink on 4th Avenue West. It will travel east on 4th Avenue, south on 1st Street, west on Crescent Avenue past the business district, Victoria Park Lodge and Crescent Manor and turn north on 3rd Street South for two blocks then east on 4th Avenue and end where they began.
Following the parade, the Souris Legion is throwing open its doors and there will be free hot chocolate for everyone! Hot dogs will be available for purchase. Santa will be set up for pictures so don’t forget to bring your camera!
“We are so excited to revive this tradition in Souris,” stated Turner. “Sixty years is too long to go without celebrating our community and Christmas with a Santa Clause Parade!”
