Salute to Heroes - honour our Protective Services

The theme for Scarecrow Days 2018 is Salute to Heroes - honour our Protective Services. Start planning your Scarecrow!

Scarecrow Days is into its twenty-seventh year and judging by the interest shown so far, it’s going to be a good one. “We want to have a lot of fun with our scarecrows this year,” explained Chamber member Loretta Turner who owns and operates LT’s Corner Store. “We’re holding a scarecrow building evening in conjunction with Pembina Co-op. We’re honouring our protective services and that’s something near and dear to people’s hearts.”

In fact the Chamber has designated 2018 Scarecrow Days theme as a Salute to Heroes – Honouring our Protective Services. According to Chamber president Bonnie Radcliffe, that can be anyone from police, to firemen, to first responders to armed service members. “All of these segments of our population lay their lives in the line to protect us,” stated Radcliffe. “We want to show them that we appreciate their service and with Scarecrow Days, we can have a little fun with it as well.”

LT’s Corner Store and Pembina Co-op will be the site of a scarecrow building evening on September 21. Scarecrow stands will be provided and people are asked to bring whatever they may need to create a unique scarecrow. There will be twelve at each location and people are asked to register with the Corner Store to take part.

The weekend, which runs September 21 – 23 begins with a kick-off barbeque at Western Financial on Friday afternoon. There will be town wide yard sales on Saturday and once again the cost to register and be included on the map is $5.00. For that you receive a map and stick as well as balloons. The Souris Fire Department will be holding their annual barbecue at the Fire Hall and the Fly Ball Agility Dog Show will be in town Saturday and Sunday. The AAA Midget Cougars will be hosting their preseason tournament at the Complex all weekend. On Sunday there is a flea market and St. Mary’s Catholic Church is resurrecting their Fall Supper.

There are many other activities in the works and more details will follow.
