Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year from the staff at Corner Pocket Publishing!
We take this opportunity to thank all of our readers, subscribers and advertisers who have helped to make our year bright. We at Corner Pocket Publishing, including the Souris Plaindealer, Melita New Era, Deloraine Times and Star and the Reston Recorder strive to bring you the news and stories from Southwestern Manitoba.
I recently read a quote from Benjamin Disraeli. Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield was a British statesman who twice served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He played a central role, according to Wikipedia, in the creation of the modern Conservative Party, defining its policies and its broad outreach. Disraeli is remembered for his influential voice in world affairs, his political battles with the Liberal Party leader William Ewart Gladstone, and his one-nation conservatism or "Tory democracy". He made the Conservatives the party most identified with the glory and power of the British Empire. He is the only British Prime Minister to have been Jewish by birth and the first person from an ethnic minority background to hold one of the Great Offices of State. He was also a novelist, publishing works of fiction even as Prime Minister. He wrote: “Without publicity there can be no public support, and without public support every nation must decay.” This interesting quote highlights the fact that the media is an important tool to help organizations or projects achieve their mission.
Disraeli died in 1881 and even then he knew the value of the media. At Corner Pocket Publishing we try, in an ever-changing world to bring you the news and community escapades each week, into your homes, and onto your electronic devises where we hope to bring you a small amount of pleasure.
“Change is inevitable. Change is constant.” Another Disraeli quote, but truer now than ever before as the world is changing at record speed and we race to keep up. As we move forward into 2019, we wish you joy, happiness and prosperity and if we have contributed to that in some small way, we are glad.
Thank you again for your support of our rural newspapers.
The staff and management of Corner Pocket Publishing, all the best in 2019!
