The Southwest Cougars are in semifinal action with the Winnipeg Wild

Cougars home to Wild Wednesday, March 13 – game two

The Cougars were back in Winnipeg Monday night to start the best of 5 semifinal with the Wild. The Cougars defeated the Winnipeg Thrashers in round 1. The Wild defeated their crosstown rival Bruins in 4 games.

Wild 5 Cougars 2 - March 11

The Wild jumped out to a one goal lead five minutes into the first period when they caused a turnover at the Cougar blue line and beat Caden Wilson to open the scoring. The Wild scored a power play goal early in the second and had a three goal lead before the second period ended. The Cougars had chances but trailed by 3 after 2 periods.

The third started off with the Wild taking a penalty for too many men and Callum Fortin made them pay as he hooked up with Grady Lane and Tyson Kozak to get the Cats on the board. The Cougars looked to be back in the game, they went back on the power play at 6:04 but Jackson Klewchuk caused a turnover and scored a short handed marker 14 seconds later. The goal took the win out of the Cougars and Klewchuk scored his second of the game two minutes later.

The Cougars continued to press out shooting the Wild in the third. Hunter Andrew then found the back of the net from Grady Lane and Trent Sambrook  with 2 minutes left in the game for the final score.

The Cougars went 1 for 3 on the power play, while the Wild scored 1 on 8 chances. Caden Wilson turned aside 25 shots in the loss, while the Carson Cherepak turned aside 26 Cougar shots. The series will shift to

Souris Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. then back into Winnipeg for game 3.
