The Souris District Arts Council final concert for 2018/19 season was held on Thursday, April 11 at the Avalon Theatre and featured the very talented group Casati from Winnipeg. Grace Hrabi, Jesse Popeski and Quintin Bart are the members of this trio. The audience was amazed with the musical talent of these three performers. Casati brought their music to life with lush three part harmonies and rich textures created with ukulele, guitar, double bass and sometimes a hurdy-gurdy. The hurdy-gurdy is a fascinating medieval instrument that is similar to a bass, but instead of using a bow for sound, you crank the end of the hurdy-gurdy while plucking the strings, producing a very different sound. This was a totally enjoyable evening and a great end of season concert. Thank you to all who have supported us this past season.
The Arts Council is busy working on the next season, with performances starting in October. Watch the Souris Plaindealer and the Arts Council website for an announcement of their 2019/2020 line-up.
